On Saturday, November 20, 2021, the Santé Tifi Haiti Foundation organized a recreational day for the young girls and boys of École Communale de Frères, creating a space for discovery, sharing, and personal empowerment. Starting at 9 a.m., around 40 participants aged 10 to 15 were welcomed into a warm atmosphere, ready to explore essential topics for their development. The day began with interactive workshops on puberty and hygiene, where participants learned about the physiologic changes in their bodies and how to care for themselves physically and emotionally during puberty. Additional workshops on self-esteem and prevention of STD through abstinence were also held.
The activities continued with impactful sessions, including a discussion on gender equality, which encouraged the participants to envision a future where their rights and voices are respected. This was also a valuable opportunity to help the young men understand their role in the fight for gender equality. A violence prevention workshop sensitively addressed difficult topics, providing the girls with tools to recognize unacceptable behaviors and empowering them to confidently say "no" to abuse. As a preventive measure, we organized a self-defense workshop led by two local black belt judo instructors, equipping the girls with skills for autonomy and safety.
Later in the day, the Foundation held a practical detergent-making workshop, aimed at providing the participants with a technical skill that could lead to economic independence.
This inspiring day, filled with laughter and connection, not only allowed the young participants to feel heard and valued but also planted seeds of self-confidence and belief in their potential. Some of participants shared how valuable this experience was to them.
Through initiatives like this, the Santé Tifi Foundation is passionately committed to a future where every girl, empowered with knowledge and resources, can grow in an environment of equality, respect, and safety.
